You are virtually amidst the palm-lined ivory-white beaches fondled by crystal clear cerulean waters, under lazuline skies featuring captivating crimson sunsets, while in Phuket, floating in Southern Thailand, in the Andaman Sea. Well, the island certainly deserves to be nicknamed as the “pearl of the south” or “pearl of the Andaman”.

Phuket, the largest island of Thailand, has all the ingredients of a perfect vacation destination. Of course, the island has numerous exotic holiday resorts, elegant beachfront hotels, lovely vacation retreats hemmed in by puffed out palms, vivacious nightlife, bars, restaurants, and fine eateries, which make it the South’s finest, busiest, and the most visited holiday destination.

Enjoying hot and humid climate year around, Phuket is best for vacationing, from November to May. Summer monsoon season is rainy, but the island is still sunny and clear. The “cool” season runs from May to October, but weather is pretty tolerable. On the whole, the island is very much reminiscent of Florida’s summer weather.

Phuket is chiefly celebrated because of its snow-white palmy beaches. However, Thais view nudity as highly violative. Nudity is considered socially incorrect in Thailand. Still, Phuket beaches have their own charms. The beaches are really nice for swimming, diving, sailing, surfing, and numerous other beach activities. The western beaches are really good for surfing. The fine beaches of Phuket include Bang Tao, Surin Beach, Laem Singh Beach, Kamala Beach, Patong Beach, Karon Beach, Kata Yai Beach, Kata Noi Beach, Ao Chalong, and Rawai Beach.

Laem Singh Beach, located between Kamala Beach and Surin Beach, is mesmerizing place, particularly famous for its picturesque views. Kamala Beach, located just to the north of Patong, on the west coast of Phuket, is widely known for Phuket Fantasea show, a wonderful cultural theme park, and a Buddhist temple at the southern end of the beach. There is a small park with a tsunami monument at the middle of the beach. Patong Beach is known for its nightlife and after dark funs. Kata Yai Beach, a beautiful clean tourist beach, is nice place for surfing. And, Ao Chalong is home to the most popular yacht anchorage of the island.

Koh Yao Noi, one of the islands, located east of Phuket, halfway to Krabi, is another fine destination for tourists. The beautiful island is known for its four fine resorts including The Paradise Koh Yao Boutique Resort and Spa, Koh Yao Island Resort, Koh Yao Pavillion Resort, and the New Evason Hideaway. Phuket offers regular public boat services to Koh Yao Noi.

Phuket City however hasn’t much for tourists, but the Chinatown Area, with its several great Thai-style shopping facilities, and a few other sites can be visited. Some of the attractions include Jui Tui and Put Jaw Temples, Sino-Portuguese Mansions, Wat Mongkol Nimit, and Phuket Culture Museum.

Phuket can be accessed by air, road, or sea. Phuket International Airport is the main air gateway to the island. It’s located 32 miles from the centre of Phuket City, in the north of the Island. The island is also directly linked to the Thai mainland by a bridge.

Choosing Your Vacation in Beautiful Phuket

Phuket is the spectacularly beautiful tropical island off the southern coast of Thailand. Known as the Pearl of the South, it offers a diverse mixture of outstanding natural beauty, culture, sport, crazy nightlife or simple relaxation. It caters for everyone, of all ages, budgets, and needs, and is one of Asia’s most popular destinations.

The breathtaking scenery of Phuket simply demands to be explored, and its variety means you will never get bored. Whether you wish to visit the mountains, the tropical jungle, the stunning waterfalls or sea caves, a number of excursions, on foot, boat or on elephant, allow you to discover the untamed interior. Of course, Phuket is also famed for its sandy, palm-lined beaches and warm blue waters, and between enjoying the sunshine on the beach or the various water-sports on offer, such as scuba diving or water-skiing, you will be spoilt for choice.

As well as the magnificent scenery, Phuket also offers a wide variety of activities that will fill your days. For those interested in exploring Phuket’s culture there is plenty to see. A number of Buddhist temples dot the island, the most important and beautiful being Wat Chalong on the southern end of the island. Phuket also has an interesting history, having been located on the trading routes between India and China from the seventeenth century, and subject to competition between European powers for its tin. Old Phuket town still has its colonial architecture and is a must see for those interested in the rich history of Phuket. A visit to the villages of the Chao Leh, or sea-gypsies, along the coast is worth a visit too. Having earned their living in the nineteenth century through piracy or pearl diving, the Chao Leh are now predominantly fishermen, and they offer a glimpse of the other side of this tropical island. Other popular attractions include a trip to the Phuket Fantasea, a unique cultural theme park, or watching Muay Thai, or Thai Boxing. There are also a number of festivals throughout the year that are a mix of celebration and spiritualism for the islanders. And on those days you don’t feel like exploring Phuket’s rich heritage and culture, there is also great shopping to be had!

If, after packing your days with action, you still have the energy to continue, then Phuket also offers a fantastic nightlife- and again, caters for everyone. Patong is the most hedonistic and raucous destination, crammed with go-go bars, discos, restaurants and bars. It is the home of the Simon Cabaret, a mesmerising and fantastical transvestite cabaret which simply needs to be seen. Just as vibrant, although less frenetic, is Karon, while the areas of Kata and Phuket City offer a more family friendly and laid back atmosphere, with a touch of local flavour. Of course, the morning after can be a little stressful, and a number of Spas aim to rebalance your well being in a serene and calm environment. Failing that, a few rounds of gold on one of Phuket’s many golf courses might do the trick.

Phuket can be many different things to different people, being at once energetic, hedonistic, exciting, untamed, spiritual, secluded, relaxing and cultural. It offers you the chance to fill your days and nights with action, fun or leisure, whether through exploration, sport, culture, or simply a day at the beach.

A look at Phuket nightlife

November 21, 2009 by admin

Phuket nightlife takes on many different forms. Phuket is one of Thailand’s top destinations and as such there is a diverse range of nightspots on the island. Although Phuket nightlife is not quite on the same level as in Bangkok, that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to find somewhere to have fun.

Phuket nightlife is at its most lively in Patong. You’ll either love Patong or you’ll hate it. The bars are loud, the clubs are obnoxious and the streets are crowded. That being said, Patong is cheap and the bars and clubs stay open later than in other parts of Phuket.

Patong is famous for its nightlife. The center of the action is found on Soi Bangla, which is a hive of go-go bars, discos and stage shows. This is Phuket nightlife at its most seedy, but it can be a lot of fun if you go in the right frame of mind.

Generally speaking, the bars and clubs in Patong churn out hip hop and dance music hits. It can all be a bit predictable, so don’t go expecting anything special.

Patong is also known for its girls. Yes, it’s true, there are countless bar girls and sex shows in Patong, but the people of Patong make no effort to conceal these facts. Patong is what it is and it’s best not to take the whole place too seriously.

Perhaps the most fun that can be had in Phuket is at some of the local clubs. Phuket nightlife is at its most authentic in the small Thai clubs, where you can check out some of the local bands. Phuket Town is probably the best place to sample some Thai-style clubbing.

Also in Phuket Town there are lots of pubs and beer bars and much less of the seedy side of Phuket nightlife.

There are plenty of other areas where you can go and party, but usually they aren’t as busy and entertaining as in Patong or Phuket Town. There are a few exceptions scattered around the island in places such as Surin, Kata-Karon and Nai Harn.

The only area that Phuket really lacks anything in terms of nightlife is serious clubbing. There are a few Phuket clubs where you can hear cutting-edge music, but these are few and far between. However, it is possible to catch electro, techno, breaks, house and more in some Phuket clubs and bars.

Phuket could be a major clubbing destination in Southeast Asia, but the island has a long way to go before it can start competing with the likes of Singapore and KL.

For now, Phuket nightlife has enough depth to keep people entertained, but you feel as if there is more to come. The shining beacon of Phuket nightlife is that there is a great live-music scene around the island. There are lots of bands who can rattle out everything from rock and indie to jazz and blues. If you can get into it, there is a top indie scene in Phuket. Pick up some CDs in a local store to get a feel for the music.

Visiting Krabi Thailand – Top 10 Attractions

November 18, 2009 by admin

In the far south of Thailand, Krabi is the poster child for Thailand’s natural coastal beauty. It’s also near Phuket. The scenery is overflowing with remarkable outcroppings of limestone that produce framing cliffs and peculiar formations. In the resort area, the pace is much slower than in other Thai hotspots, with a market that caters more for relaxed travellers and families who would prefer to stay away from the party scene of some of Thailand’s beaches.

Daytrip to Wat Tham Seua

If the heat and humidity aren’t too overwhelming, a trip to Wat Tham Seua, or Tiger Cave Temple, is a must. In fact, in spite of the heat, you may want to venture out to see this site in order to explore the cool maze of caves in which Buddhist monks live and worship. A climb up this Ao Luk Thanu limestone mountain to the summit affords a look at the pagoda, ‘Buddha’s footprint’ and spectacular vistas of the countryside.

Rock climbing

The rock climbing scene at Krabi is fit for all skill levels, with something for everyone. Climbers come from all over the world for the unique karst structures and limestone cliffs, many of which are well marked and bolted for climbers. One of the most popular sites is at Ton Sai Beach, but it’s possible to go climbing at any number of places around Krabi, especially when collaborating with a local rock climbing company. If you’re not sure of your abilities, don’t be too shy to enrol in one of the instructional classes offered.

Koh Lanta Marine National Park

Pristine rainforests and more lovely Krabi beach options can be found on the island of Koh Lanta, which is also a marine national park. The most striking aspect of this island is that it’s home to the nomadic tribe of Chae Leh, also called sea gypsies, who have practiced their own distinct religion and spoken their unique language for centuries. There are plenty of relaxed bungalow settings for those who want to stay a while. Visitors from as far away as Phuket come to visit.

Than Bok Khoranie National Park

Taking a day to check out Than Bok Khorani National Park is a worthwhile endeavour, especially if you’re interested in the diversity of plant life here, from small gardenias to towering trees. The highlight of the park is the green-hued pond that is the namesake for the park. Beyond the pond is the area’s standard fare of limestone formations, caves and mangrove trees. While the park does not offer accommodation, camping is permitted if you bring your own equipment. It’s also an easy drive to and from Phuket.

Shell Fossil Cemetery

A few miles out of Krabi Town, you’ll find the archaeological site known as the Shell Fossil Cemetery. This marvel has been under construction for the past 35 million years and has grown into a huge slab of fossilised snail remains more than 15 inches thick. The site of this former swamp can be found at Ban Laem Pho Cape, which is located about 10 miles from Krabi Town.

Exploring the archipelago

An organised tour of the archipelago is a wonderful way to spend a day, and with your itinerary in the hands of a local tour guide, you can be sure to find wonderful scenery and some great secluded Krabi beach choices. Another way to explore the islands close to Ao Nang Beach is to hire a sea kayak and paddle out to them yourself. This is a good way to get away from the crowds in the resort area and catch some peace along with spectacular scenery.

Scuba diving

If you’re a certified diver, you’ll probably want to jump right in as soon as you arrive in Krabi. The reputation of the nearby Andaman Islands and the wealth of coral reefs fuel much enthusiasm in this area, and there’s no shortage of diving companies to take divers on day and longer trips. Snorkelling is also worthwhile, and those wishing to pick up a diving certificate can enrol in a four-day course. Many of the Phuket dive trips end up here.

Railay Beach

Longtail boats can be hired to take passengers out to Railay Beach, which is barred from the mainland by massive cliffs that make it only accessible by sea. There are a few resorts set up along these beautiful beaches, and Phra Nang, a sacred cave, is one of the area’s principle attractions.

Biking

Cycling is a wonderful way to open up the inland countryside, and a 15 or 20 mile loop out of Ao Nang will take you into coconut groves, past quiet villages and in and around the karst outcroppings of rock before bringing you back to the resort. Bicycles can be rented for the whole day at Ao Nang beach in Krabi.

Krabi nightlife

Visitors don’t generally come to Krabi for the nightlife; instead they’re either here for the stunning geological landscape or the chance to relax in a quieter environment that is more conducive to families. Krabi Town itself has very few tourist establishments, with most of the action confined to a mile-long stretch of beach at the Ao Nang resort area. While there aren’t any discos or wild parties, there are plenty of nice restaurants with good seafood and a relaxed atmosphere. The bars in the busiest sector of this beach stay open past midnight.
