Thailand is a fascinating place to visit but the weather and temperatures mean that timing your visit is imperative. Monsoons arrive around July time and carry on into November, this results in sticky and quite uncomfortable temperatures and may not suit the average holiday-maker. From March to June, Thailand has very high temperatures and again, may not be what some people are looking for. The best time to visit Thailand is between November and mid-February where temperatures are comfortable and beaches are at their best.

There are some great hotels in Thailand available and you should have no problem finding one to suit you as there are a great selection with varying prices and quality depending on what you are looking for. As well as the temperature being bearable, there are also plenty of national and regional festivals going on from November to February.

The “Kathin” and “Loi Krathong” festivals are very popular in the country and both take place in November and the “Surin Annual Elephant Roundup” which is very popular amongst tourists. Other festivals that are worth a visit are the Bangkok Film Festival held in January and Chinese New Year which is always awash with vibrant colours and is a great way to experience the culture.

Getting around is fairly simple, tourists are advised to use the Baw Khaw Saw (BKS) public bus terminals to minimise the chances of having anything stolen as private hire mini-vans and buses have a high theft rate. There are plenty of hotels around and most are positioned in central locations which allow you to make the most of your time in Thailand.

Koh Tao Hotels

Travelling to Thailand is an experience you won’t forget. It offers so much that a usual 2 week holiday is not enough.

Two of the not so wellknown islands are Koh Tao and Koh Samet. Each has it’s own style and charm. Koh Samet is located only 3 hours travelling time by bus from Bangkok in the provence of Rayong. It is a tiny island no more than 6km long, but it is very beautiful none the less.

Because most of the island is set in a national park most development has been kept limitedunder control which has given the island a more natural laidback feel. Koh Samet is also know as crystal island, this is because of the pure white sand, I must confess it is really lovely there, having just spent christmas 2008 sitting on the beach getting a sun tan.

There is a good range of accomodation on the island from small backpack guesthouses costing $10 per night to upscale resorts at $300. The bigger hotels are very over priced, so i would suggest something around the 30-40 dollar per night range will get you something nice.

Moving down the coast about 6 hours from Bangkok you will find koh tao island. This is a really great place to unwind and relax. This is the most famous place in Thailand to go scuba diving. Beaches are nice and clean, but during high season get pretty busy, so book well in advance.

Food on both the island is delicious, especailly the seafood, which of course is very fresh. The prices are very resonable, and there is nothing like sitting on the beach under the stars eating lobster and king prawns.

Please enjoy Thailand.
